FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL!

The teachers and staff here at Stowe Elementary have been busy preparing for the best day of the year - the first day of school!  Our school has been beautifully cleaned by our custodial staff, but our classrooms have been lonely for the sounds of students as they play and work in their pursuit of authentic, personalized learning.  We are eager to embrace the joy of learning together.

New Faculty at SES

We are thrilled to have our returning faculty and staff with us again for this school year and to have new teachers joining us, bringing new energy and excitement!  Please provide a warm welcome to our newest employees.

Chelsea Stetson - Grade 3

Ms. Stetson is originally from Woodstock, Vermont.  She attended the University of Vermont, where she completed a B.S. in Elementary Education.  Additionally, she acquired her Master of Education from Northeastern University in 2015.  Ms. Stetson began her teaching career at an American-accredited international school in Bangkok, Thailand where she taught fourth grade for two years and traveled extensively.  She joins the SES community from Acton, MA where she taught fifth grade for the past three years.  Ms. Stetson enjoys spending time outdoors, whether that be skiing, hiking, or running.  She was heavily involved in the Girls on the Run program at her previous school in Acton, MA.  Ms. Stetson is really looking forward to participating in the Friday Program as well as the Girls on the Run spring season!

Peter Terwilliger - Grade 2

Mr. Terwilliger completed his Masters of Elementary Education at Middle Tennessee State University. In addition to this degree, he is a licensed school administrator and also holds a degree in Psychology and English Literature from Belmont University in Tennessee. He is joining us from the Nashville area where he taught fourth grade, supervised the after school club program, and served on the school leadership team.  Mr. Terwilliger enjoys spending time with his wife and three children, running, and the great outdoors. He looks forward to an exciting future at Stowe Elementary School.

Dana LaClair - General Music and Chorus

Mrs. LaClair is so excited to join the faculty and staff at Stowe Elementary School! Previously, she was the elementary and middle school music teacher at the Bakersfield School. She holds a degree in music education from Johnson State College and this will be her seventh year teaching. Outside of school, Mrs. LaClair is active in local community theatre. This past summer she played the lead role of Princess Winifred in the Lamoille County Player's production of Once Upon a Mattress. She also sings at her church and takes tap classes through the Flynn Center for the Performing Arts. Mrs. LaClair is a trained vocalist and firmly believes everyone should be a lifelong learner. This past year she started trumpet lessons with the goal to someday play in the pit band for a musical.

Gretchen Casey - Literacy Lead Teacher

Originally from Western New York, Mrs. Casey has lived in Vermont for the past 18 years.  She brings with her 20 years of experience working with students in the area of literacy.  Gretchen loves to learn, and she is dedicated to helping students discover their own love of learning.  She relishes getting lost in a story and can be found crafting or gardening whenever she has a little downtime.

Our new E-Registration portal is now available!  This post is a follow-up to a letter and an email you should have received. If you have already completed your Parent Portal Single-Sign-On and E-Registration, THANK YOU!
If you have not created your Parent Portal Single Sign-On account and completed E-Registration, please continue reading.

For those who prefer to fill out the forms via paper, traditional printed "summer packets" can still be mailed home upon request or picked up at the school office. Please call your school to make your request.

E-Registration is accessed through the PowerSchool Parent Portal HERE. If you need your parent username and password, please call your school, email support at lssutech@lssuvt.org or contact Melissa Gillen at 802-888-4541 x5559.  For additional instruction on how to create a Parent Portal Single Sign-On account, please click HERE.

E-Registration will allow parents and guardians to update their student's demographic information, electronically sign parent permissions, and view documents and forms via the PowerSchool Parent Portal. We are certain that you will find this to be a more convenient and faster way to update your family’s information with the school.
Lamoille South Supervisory Union is committed to improving communication with families. We are implementing this system to provide a more accurate, flexible, and cost effective approach to collecting and updating student information. We also hope parents will find this system a more convenient and faster way to communicate with schools.

    Dear Families:
It is with great excitement that I write this letter of introduction to you as the new Principal of Stowe Elementary School for the 2016-2017 school year.  As principal, it is my responsibility to help make SES the very best school it can be for the children of Stowe by working in partnership with the school board, administrative team, faculty, staff, parents and community.
Along with staff, I will work hard to continue the legacy of success established at SES. Guided by our LSSU Action Plan, we will focus on personalized learning, fostering a safe and healthy culture for children, consistent implementation of instructional strategies to increase students’ achievement and continuing to develop a full, engaging curriculum as part of a proficiency based system.
During the course of the year, we will work together to provide the students of Stowe with the best possible opportunities to prepare them to be world citizens, ready to master the challenges of the future with a solid educational foundation.  As Principal, my door is always open and I welcome your input. Please feel free to stop in or call to make an appointment to have a conversation.  I look forward to hearing from you!
As a reminder, the first day of school is Monday, August 29.  I anticipate a most successful year as we support the academic, social, and emotional growth of all the children here at Stowe Elementary School.

    In partnership,
    Marty Lacasse, Principal
