Celebration Day, Tuesday, June 13
Kindergarten through 5th grade

There is no rain date planned - think sunshine!

Volunteers Needed

Swab the Deck, Pizza Delivery, Meltdown, Wet your Noodle and Atomic Clothesline Blast are just a few of the many games to be played on Celebration Day.  
Come and join the fun by volunteering!

Volunteers will meet by the scoreboard (beyond the playground fence) promptly at 12:00.  Games will begin shortly after noon and will end around 2:30.

Please email Jeff Dacales (jeff.dacales@lssuvt.org)  if you plan to volunteer, and be sure to include name and classroom teacher(s).

In the event of inclement weather, the status of Celebration Day will be posted on the SES Website the evening of June 12.

NEWS AND EVENTS
  • Community Meeting:  Friday, June 2 at 8:20.  Students from Mrs. Bradford's class will be our main presenters.  You're always welcome to join us!
  • Growing Up Stowe:  Stowe Middle and High School students invite all community members, business owners and parents to a follow-up of the dinner theater presentation about the strengths, challenges, concerns and pressures they face daily in their school and community.  We will show performances again and work on next steps.  Out students invite you to improve our town with action and with proactive thinking.  Complimentary coffee and dessert provided!  Registration required at this link, or search "Growing Up Stowe" on eventbrite.
  • Miles for Smiles:  June 4 is the 2nd Annual Miles for Smiles Race.  All proceeds go to PTO school programs and Stowe Recreation summer camp scholarships. We welcome runners of all ages and abilities and hope you will come out to support our children!  Please call Stowe Recreation at 253-6138 to register.  We are looking for volunteers and food donations for the day of the event.  Please contact Rachel Putnam at rachelputnam@rocketmail.com if you are able to help.
  • Law Enforcement Torch Run:  On Friday, June 2nd, some of our students will be participating in the "Law Enforcement Torch Run" to benefit Special Olympics. Officer Bruce Merriam from the Stowe Police Department will be meeting some of our students with the torch at the Memorial Building at 1:00 PM.  At 1:10, they will run from the Memorial Building to the SES bus loop where students will be waiting to cheer them on.   There are T-shirts for sale in the SES office for $20 to raise money for Special Olympics.  Students may also make donations.
  • Summer Reading:  Learn more about the Stowe Free Library summer reading program for children.  Summer Reading Program
  • Youth Mountain Biking:  Stowe Mountain Bike Club and Stowe Rotary present Wednesday Night Kids' Rides, starting May 24 from 5:30 - 7:00 PM.  All ages and abilities are welcome to join these supervised rides.  Volunteers needed!  For more information, please contact Evan Chismark at stowemtb@gmail.com
  • Stowe Cross Country Team:  Umbrellas, umbrellas, umbrellas..the Stowe Cross Country Team has extra umbrellas to sell.  They are large green and white golf umbrellas with the Stowe Loves Sports logo on them.  You don't want to be caught in the rain without one!  Contact Becky McGovern at 253-2252 to have one delivered to you.  They are $20 each.  Thank you in advance for your support!

School Board Brief - May 15, 2017

The board reviewed Stowe’s and Elmore-Morristown Unified Union’s math and literacy progress monitoring tools. Lamoille South Supervisory Union (LSSU) has recently begun using the STAR assessment, which takes 20 minutes and will be given three times a year, with the flexibility to add screenings for some students. Students progress through the assessments once they have demonstrated proficiency.  These screenings provide data that enables more focused instruction in areas where students haven’t mastered skills and provide ongoing indicators of the extent student learning is on track to meet our goals.  
The board began discussion of the formation of a committee to address our capital improvement needs. The board will solidify plans over the summer.

Emily Rosenbaum was named the Stowe School District board representative to the Regional Advisory Board.

  • New Personnel and New Assignments:  Next year, two of our faculty are moving to new assignments here at SES.  Mr. Sean Semler will be joining the 4th grade team and Mrs. Stanton will become our Literacy Interventionist, providing specialized support for students.  New personnel include:  Mrs. Mary Karen Crawford, school nurse; Ms. Caroline Souter, grade 1; and Ms. Ashley Goddard, grade 5.
  • 6th Grade Chromebooks:  Parents, for your planning purposes, 6th graders at SMS are provided with a Chromebook.

School Board Brief - May 08, 2017

In a joint meeting with the Elmore-Morristown Unified Union (EMUU) and the Lamoille South Supervisory Union, the Stowe School Board interviewed Peter Clarke, a consultant who specializes in Act 46. After discussion, the Stowe and EMUU boards voted to hire Mr. Clarke to help structure the process of our Act 46 study and response.


The boards added two new meetings to discuss Act 46. The next three Act 46 meetings are:

  • May 31,2017, 6:00 PM, Morristown Elementary School
  • July 10, 2017, 6:00 PM, Stowe Elementary School
  • August 16, 2017, 6:00 PM, Morristown Elementary School

Fifth graders enjoyed a presentation by visiting author Jacob Sager Weinstein.  Mr. Weinstein has written for The New Yorker, HBO, the BBC and The Onion.  He was nominated for two Writers Guild of America Awards, won one.  He lives in London with his wife and children.  The book he discussed with the students is his first children's book and will be published later this month.

  • Birthday Book Club:  The next Birthday Book Club is on May 18. On that day, we will recognize birthdays in April, May, June and July.  If you would like to sign your child up for this program, please fill out a form located in the entryway at SES and submit a check made out to SES PTO Birthday Book Club in your donation amount.  If you have any questions about this program, please contact Diane Lepikko at:   flushflud1@aol.com.

  • Families of 5th graders:  Greetings!  Stowe Middle School would like to invite 5th grade families to our annual transition event on Tuesday, May 16 at 6:00 PM. Please consider registering ahead of time to help us better prepare for your evening. To register click HERE.
  • John Halligan is returning to the area to provide another parent presentation.  If you missed his presentation at Stowe in March, you have another chance to hear his powerful message.  He will be at Bishop Marshall on May 11.  Parent Presentation
  • Clothes for wet days:  Please remember to send your children in with an extra set of shoes and clothing.  We try our best to get the kids outside every day, but this time of year, the playground can be quite wet.  Children are welcome to keep extra changes of clothes in their cubbies or lockers.  Thank you, Nurse Timberly.

  • 5th Grade Musical:  The fifth grade play is in full production mode.  The set construction crew is looking for the following supplies:  large pieces of cardboard (refrigerator size), and water-based paints in bright colors (blue, yellow, green, red, white).  All supplies can be dropped off in the office or in the upper wing outside of the fifth grade classrooms.  Thank you!  
  • 6th Grade Chromebooks:  Parents, for your planning purposes, 6th graders at SMS are provided with a Chromebook.  
  • Talent Show, May 17 from 6:00 - 7:00, with a dress rehearsal on Tuesday, 5/16, from 3:00 - 4:00.
