Student-Led Conferences
Families will have an opportunity to participate in a new experience as our school engages in parent/teacher conferences with a new component - student voice! Your child will attend the conference to share his/her learning. Student-led conferences are an important part of helping children take ownership of their learning. This level of personalization has a strong, positive impact upon students, both in and out of school. If you'd like to learn more about proficiency-based learning and connections to personalization, please visit our website at this link: The Road to Proficiency
Thank you for your support, as we learn and grow together as a school community!
One parent's perspective, after the conferences last week:
The student-led conference structure gave me a great deal of insight to how and what my child is learning. Seeing live application of concepts around math,, reading, art and strategy building gave me a clear picture that he is learning new things. I don't think I would have taken away as much insight with a typical parent/teacher conference but seeing this live application really taught me about how my child learns. It actually got me thinking about how we can look at reading and math a little differently in our own house to keep him excited about learning. I worry about him being challenged at school when the work that comes home seems to contain concepts that I think he's already got a handle on, but now I can see that you're contouring these concepts to teach him new things.
